Lives of Christian Servant Leadership

WLC students are serving in Jesus' love | MAKE A GIFT

The Divine Servant statue on our Campus Quad portrays a beautiful image of Jesus washing Peter’s feet. This powerful illustration reminds us constantly of His incredible, selfless love for us.

The mission of Wisconsin Lutheran College is to prepare our students to follow our Savior’s perfect example through lives of Christian servant leadership. While our Divine Servant statue demonstrates this ideal, it is not the only place on campus one can find an outstanding display of Christian service motivated by love.

Senior Alex Sprenger is one of many WLC students faithfully “washing others’ feet,” just as Jesus taught. Alex is learning the ins and outs of accounting and finance so that he can one day start his own business – just like his dad. He says, “I want to use my gifts and resources to serve my community.” He first plans to gain experience working as a public accountant or price analyst before launching his own company.

Growing up in a small town, Alex experienced some culture shock when first arriving on campus for football practice. “There were so many different people from all over the country with different ways of life. But we were all centered on Christ. Getting to know my teammates gave me empathy and helped me become a stronger leader.”

This year, Alex became the football team’s academic mentor through the Warriors Academic & Leadership Initiative (WALI). He also serves as the accounting and finance tutor in WLC’s Student Success Center and is a Student Conduct Review Board member.

“Our football careers will eventually end, but our academics have lifelong significance. The fact that I’m able to help and make a lasting impact is really cool.”

WLC’s caring Christian community has encouraged Alex to grow in his faith. He recently began co-leading the weekly Athlete’s Bible Study, which is currently focused on “trusting God through the storms of life.”

“College is a time when many students have questions about what we believe. If you’re struggling in your faith, coaches and professors have a particular way of pointing you to Jesus. You’re always going to get a heavy dose of Christian love.”

Christian leaders like Alex offer hope to a struggling and lost world. Our students are prepared with the vocational and leadership skills to serve their neighbors in Jesus’ love. However, this courageous mission is only possible with your support for scholarships. Will you please consider a gift this fall to help provide scholarships for our servant leaders? WLC students depend on your generosity.

Upon graduating, Alex will have a wealth of knowledge to help him on his path as an entrepreneur. In addition to his accounting and finance coursework, he has been strengthened through real-world internship experiences.

Over the last two summers, Alex worked for Johnsonville in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. While there, he implemented a new inventory and reordering system and automated a workbook maintenance procedure using skills acquired from his WLC classes. Next semester, Alex will participate in an auditing internship with the global accounting firm Baker Tilly. Because of their advanced preparation and leadership abilities, WLC accounting majors are highly sought after by industry leaders. In recent years, every single student entering the accounting field has secured a job before graduating.

The outpouring of your gifts and prayers is another example of Christian servant leadership. Thank you for investing in students like Alex, who are being prepared to impact their communities, workplaces, families, and churches with the love of Jesus.

Double your impact: A generous family foundation believes in helping students like Alex too, and has committed to matching your gift to annual scholarships dollar-for-dollar.
